Content Moderation

As a moderator, you help keep OpenGiving safe and trustworthy. This guide covers moderation procedures, guidelines, and best practices.

Moderation Queue

Accessing the Queue

  1. Navigate to Moderation in the admin menu
  2. You'll see items awaiting review
  3. Items are sorted by priority and age

Queue Priorities

Campaign Review

New Campaign Checklist

When reviewing new campaigns:

  • Title - Appropriate and accurate
  • Description - Clear, honest, no prohibited content
  • Images - Relevant, appropriate, owned/permitted
  • Category - Correctly selected
  • Goal - Reasonable for stated purpose
  • Creator - Account in good standing

Approval Criteria

Approve if:

  • Meets all guidelines
  • Purpose is clear and legitimate
  • Content is appropriate
  • No policy violations

Request changes if:

  • Minor issues can be fixed
  • Additional information needed
  • Images need adjustment

Reject if:

  • Fraudulent intent
  • Violates policies
  • Inappropriate content
  • Prohibited category

When in doubt, escalate to a senior moderator rather than guessing.

Content Guidelines

Prohibited Content

Never approve:

  • Hate speech or discrimination
  • Violence or threats
  • Adult/sexual content
  • Illegal activities
  • Scams or fraud
  • Personal attacks
  • Spam or duplicates

Gray Areas

Use judgment for:

  • Political campaigns (allowed if factual)
  • Medical fundraising (verify if possible)
  • Religious content (allowed if respectful)
  • Controversial causes (check with senior mod)

User Reports

Handling Reports

When a user reports content:

  1. Review the reported content
  2. Review the reporter's history
  3. Compare against guidelines
  4. Take appropriate action
  5. Notify involved parties
