How to use OpenGiving's messaging features to connect with others.

Chat & Messaging

OpenGiving includes built-in messaging so you can communicate with other users, campaign creators, and marketplace sellers.

Messaging Features

Direct Messages

Send private messages to:

  • Campaign creators (ask questions)
  • Marketplace sellers (inquire about items)
  • Other supporters (connect with community)

How to Message

  1. Go to the user's profile or listing
  2. Click "Message"
  3. Type your message
  4. Send

Message Notifications

Get notified when you receive messages:

  • In-app notifications (badge icon)
  • Email notifications (configurable)
  • Push notifications (if enabled)

Conversation Guidelines

Keep all transactions on the platform. Never share personal payment info in messages.

Do

  • Ask clarifying questions
  • Discuss item details
  • Share encouragement
  • Report suspicious behavior

Don't

  • Share personal financial info
  • Make threats or harass
  • Spam or advertise
  • Request off-platform payments

Message Management

Finding Messages

Access your messages:

  1. Click the message icon in navigation
  2. View all conversations
  3. Search by username or keyword

Archiving Conversations

Keep your inbox tidy:

  • Archive old conversations
  • Archived messages can be retrieved
  • Nothing is permanently deleted

Blocking Users

If someone is bothering you:

  1. Open the conversation
  2. Click the menu (three dots)
  3. Select "Block User"
  4. They can no longer message you

Safety Features

Automatic Filtering

Our system automatically:

  • Detects spam messages
  • Flags suspicious content
  • Filters prohibited content

Reporting Messages

Report inappropriate messages:

  1. Open the message
  2. Click "Report"
  3. Select the reason
  4. Our team reviews within 24 hours
